Dino 246 GT

Why it matters

Introduced in 1969 as the more powerful successor to the aluminum-bodied Dino 206 GT, the 246 GT honored Enzo Ferrari’s son Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari and established a new kind of compact, accessible sports car from Maranello. Its transversely mounted 2,419 cc Tipo 135 CS V6 produced approximately 195 hp and drove the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Pininfarina’s flowing mid-engined form was built by Scaglietti, while independent suspension and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes helped deliver the exceptional balance that became the Dino’s defining quality. The model evolved through L, M and E series, with detail changes to wheels, bumpers, body construction and cabin trim. Ferrari completed approximately 2,487 fixed-roof GT coupes before production ended in 1974, alongside the later 246 GTS.
