Why it matters
Introduced in 1972 as the open-roof companion to the Dino 246 GT, the GTS belonged exclusively to the final E-series generation. Its removable targa panel and black sail panels—with three horizontal ventilation slots replacing the coupe’s rear quarter windows—created one of the most recognizable Ferrari-associated silhouettes of the 1970s. Beneath the Scaglietti-built body, the transversely mounted 2,419 cc Tipo 135 CS V6 produced approximately 195 hp through a five-speed manual transaxle. Unequal-length wishbone suspension and four-wheel disc brakes preserved the Dino’s celebrated agility, while the open roof placed the V6’s sound directly behind the occupants. Ferrari completed 1,274 examples through 1974, making the GTS significantly rarer than its fixed-roof sibling.
