Why it matters

Unveiled alongside the 12Cilindri in Miami in 2024, the 12Cilindri Spider continued Ferrari's rare lineage of series-production front-engined V12 open cars. Its 6,496 cc F140HD engine produced 830 cv at 9,250 rpm and revved to 9,500 rpm without turbocharging or hybrid assistance, driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle. The aluminum retractable hardtop opened or closed in 14 seconds and could operate at speeds up to 45 km/h, disappearing beneath a sculpted rear deck that gave the Spider a distinct twin-buttress profile. Ferrari reinforced the open body while preserving the berlinetta's sophisticated four-wheel steering, brake-by-wire system, Side Slip Control 8 and active aerodynamic strategy. Two independently controlled rear flaps managed downforce without a conventional wing, while the cockpit's integrated aero devices reduced turbulence with the roof lowered. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.95 seconds, 0–200 km/h in under 8.2 seconds and a maximum speed above 340 km/h. By combining contemporary chassis control with an unassisted high-revving V12, the 12Cilindri Spider made one of Ferrari's most theatrical mechanical experiences available in an elegant open grand tourer.
