Ferrari 296 GTB

Why it matters

Presented in 2021, the 296 GTB was Ferrari's first production road car to use a V6 engine carrying the Prancing Horse badge. Its name joined the engine's 2,992 cc displacement and six cylinders with the traditional Gran Turismo Berlinetta designation. The wide 120-degree angle between the cylinder banks lowered the center of gravity and created space for the turbochargers inside the vee, shortening intake paths and sharpening response. The V6 produced 663 cv on its own—then a record 221 cv per liter for a production car—while a rear electric motor raised combined output to 830 cv. A 7.45 kWh battery enabled approximately 25 km of electric driving, and four eManettino modes balanced silent running, hybrid efficiency, performance and maximum qualifying output. Ferrari developed the patented Transition Manager Actuator to blend regenerative and hydraulic braking, while the 2,600 mm wheelbase made the car notably agile. Active aerodynamics included a vertically deploying rear spoiler inspired by LaFerrari. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.3 seconds and a maximum speed above 330 km/h. Its compact dimensions, distinctive V6 soundtrack and deeply integrated hybrid systems made the 296 GTB a defining Ferrari of the electrified era.
