Why it matters

Presented in 2022, the 296 GTS translated Ferrari's groundbreaking compact V6 hybrid architecture into an open two-seat sports car. Its 2,992 cc, 120-degree twin-turbocharged V6 produced 663 cv, while a rear electric motor raised combined output to 830 cv. The wide cylinder-bank angle placed the turbochargers inside the vee for compact packaging and immediate response, while the 7.45 kWh battery provided approximately 25 km of electric driving. Ferrari engineered the aluminum retractable hardtop to open or close in 14 seconds at speeds up to 45 km/h, dividing it into two sections that folded above the engine bay without disturbing the car's compact proportions. The rear bodywork, buttresses and engine cover were redesigned to manage cooling, airflow and cockpit turbulence while retaining the 296's active rear spoiler. The chassis structure received targeted reinforcement and the electronic controls were recalibrated for the open body. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.6 seconds and a maximum speed above 330 km/h. The 296 GTS preserved the GTB's agility, electric capability and distinctive V6 soundtrack while making that character more immediate with the roof lowered.
