Why it matters
Presented in April 2025, the 296 Speciale continued Ferrari's celebrated line of focused berlinettas after the Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale and 488 Pista. Its 2,992 cc, 120-degree twin-turbo V6 adopted titanium connecting rods, strengthened pistons, a lightened crankshaft and racing-derived engine management to produce 700 cv. An uprated axial-flux electric motor delivered as much as 180 cv in the new extra-boost mode, taking combined output to 880 cv—a record at launch for a rear-wheel-drive production Ferrari. Extensive use of carbon fibre, titanium and stripped-back interior components removed approximately 60 kg compared with the 296 GTB, producing a dry weight of 1,410 kg and a record 1.60 kg/cv weight-to-power ratio. Aerodynamic ideas transferred from the 296 Challenge included an aero damper through the bonnet, revised underbody, rear vertical fins and projecting side wings; together with the faster multi-position active spoiler, they generated 435 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, 20 percent more than the GTB. Multimatic fixed-rate dampers derived from the 296 GT3, titanium springs, dedicated Michelin tyres and a 5 mm lower ride height further increased response. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.0 seconds, a top speed above 330 km/h and a 1:19 Fiorano lap. The 296 Speciale proved that Ferrari's modern special-series formula could preserve emotional intensity while using a plug-in-hybrid V6.
