Why it matters

Unveiled in 2025 with the 296 Speciale berlinetta, the 296 Speciale A became the open counterpart to Ferrari's most driver-focused rear-wheel-drive production model. Its 2,992 cc, 120-degree twin-turbo V6 produced 700 cv and worked with a 180-cv axial-flux electric motor in Qualify mode for a combined 880 cv. Ferrari carried across the berlinetta's titanium connecting rods, lightened crankshaft, strengthened pistons, extra-boost strategy and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission while adapting the structure and airflow management to a retractable-hardtop body. A headrest flap and carefully developed nolders controlled air over the open cockpit, allowing the Spider to preserve the Speciale's aerodynamic character and active-spoiler strategy. The rear winglets, scalloped bonnet, enlarged front intake, high central exhaust and broad black tail panel distinguished it from the 296 GTS. With a dry weight of 1,490 kg, Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.3 seconds and a maximum speed above 330 km/h. The carbon-fibre and Alcantara cabin, Multimatic fixed-rate dampers, titanium springs and dedicated Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres made the A much more than a cosmetic convertible. It extends Ferrari's line of open special-series cars by combining the immediacy of the 296 Speciale with the sensory intensity of roof-down driving.
