Why it matters

Introduced at the 1982 Paris Motor Show, the 308 GTB Quattrovalvole answered criticism of the earlier injected model’s reduced performance. New cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder improved breathing, raising the 2,927 cc transverse V8 to approximately 240 hp in European specification while retaining Bosch K-Jetronic injection and Marelli electronic ignition. Power flowed through Ferrari’s five-speed gated manual transaxle and limited-slip differential. Exterior identifiers included a slim louvered panel on the front lid, a deeper front fascia, an enamel nose badge and revised grille details; power mirrors, Speedline wheels and an optional rear aerofoil reflected the model’s early-1980s evolution. The fixed-roof GTB remained substantially rarer than its open GTS sibling. Only 748 examples were built during the four-year production run before the 328 GTB arrived, making this the ultimate and most developed 308 berlinetta.
