Why it matters

Introduced with the 328 GTB at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 328 GTS evolved the open 308 formula through smoother integrated bumpers, a redesigned nose and tail, improved interior controls and a larger 3,186 cc V8. Four valves per cylinder, Bosch K-Jetronic injection and Marelli electronic ignition delivered 270 hp in European form through a five-speed gated manual transaxle. Its removable black roof panel stowed behind the seats, while the signature louvered sail panels framed the open cockpit and distinguished the GTS from the fixed-roof GTB. Later examples gained anti-lock brakes and revised convex wheels, marking Ferrari's transition toward modern road-car systems without diluting the model's mechanical clarity. Ferrari produced 6,068 examples through 1989, making the GTS the dominant 328 variant and one of the most recognizable open Ferraris of its era.
