Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2

Why it matters

Unveiled at the 1972 Paris Motor Show, the 365 GT4 2+2 replaced the curvaceous 365 GT 2+2 with an elegant, angular Pininfarina body whose proportions would endure through the later 400, 400i and 412. Its 4,390 cc four-cam Colombo V12 used six side-draft Weber carburetors to produce approximately 340 hp, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. A 2,700 mm wheelbase provided genuinely useful rear seating, while independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, standard power steering and self-leveling rear suspension gave this substantial grand tourer remarkable composure. Approximately 525 examples were completed before the model evolved into the 400 in 1976, establishing the foundation for Ferrari’s longest-lived V12 four-seat design family.
