Why it matters
Debuting at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the 365 GTC/4 effectively succeeded both the two-seat 365 GTC and the larger 365 GT 2+2. Filippo Sapino’s Pininfarina design introduced a low wedge nose, retractable headlamps, a distinctive full-width black rubber bumper and an airy five-window cabin flowing into a clean Kammback tail. Its 4,390 cc four-cam Colombo V12 used six side-draft Weber carburetors to allow a lower hood line and produced approximately 340 hp. Unlike the Daytona’s rear transaxle, the GTC/4 used a conventional front-mounted five-speed gearbox, while independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and standard power steering supported its more relaxed touring mission. Air conditioning, electric windows and small folding rear seats added everyday usability. Approximately 500 were built during its brief production run.
