Ferrari 458 Speciale

Why it matters

Unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 458 Speciale applied Ferrari's racing knowledge to every part of the 458 Italia. Its 4,499 cc naturally aspirated V8 produced 597 hp at 9,000 rpm, achieving 135 CV per liter—the highest specific output then reached by a naturally aspirated production engine. Ferrari reduced weight by approximately 90 kg through thinner glass, lighter body panels, a stripped Alcantara cabin and numerous carbon-fiber components. Movable front and rear aerodynamic elements balanced downforce and drag automatically, making the Speciale Ferrari's most aerodynamically efficient production car at launch. Its defining electronic innovation was Side Slip Angle Control, which continuously analyzed yaw, steering angle and lateral acceleration, then coordinated F1-Trac and the E-Diff to make controlled oversteer more progressive and accessible. Revised suspension geometry, exceptionally direct steering, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and faster transmission logic sharpened every response. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 9.1 seconds and a 1 minute 23.5 second Fiorano lap. Widely regarded as one of Ferrari's finest modern driver's cars, the Speciale represents the final and most focused evolution of the naturally aspirated 458 berlinetta.
