Ferrari 812 GTS

Why it matters

Revealed in 2019, the 812 GTS was Ferrari's first series-production front-engined V12 spider since the 365 GTS4 of 1969, better known as the Daytona Spider. Its 6,496 cc naturally aspirated engine retained the 812 Superfast's 800 cv at 8,500 rpm and 718 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. A compact two-piece retractable hardtop opened or closed in 14 seconds at speeds up to 45 km/h, transforming the car without sacrificing useful luggage space. Ferrari reshaped the entire rear body around two flying buttresses, a redesigned tonneau and a triplane wing integrated into the diffuser, while small aerodynamic winglets at the upper windscreen helped control cabin turbulence with the roof lowered. The chassis retained electric power steering, Side Slip Control 5.0 and the second-generation Virtual Short Wheelbase rear-steering system, preserving the berlinetta's agility while accounting for the spider's structural and aerodynamic demands. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in under 3.0 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 8.3 seconds and a maximum speed above 340 km/h. The 812 GTS combined the full performance of Ferrari's flagship naturally aspirated V12 with the sound, visibility and ceremony of open-air motoring, making it a landmark in the marque's modern grand-touring history.
