Why it matters
Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the F8 Tributo succeeded the 488 GTB as Ferrari's regular-production mid-engined V8 berlinetta. Its 3,902 cc twin-turbo engine was derived from the 488 Pista and produced 720 cv at 8,000 rpm and 770 Nm at 3,250 rpm, making it Ferrari's most powerful V8 for a non-special-series road car at launch. Titanium connecting rods, lightweight rotating components, Inconel exhaust manifolds and carbon-fibre intake plenums helped deliver immediate response and a record 185 cv per litre. The F8 was 40 kg lighter than the 488 GTB and achieved ten percent greater aerodynamic efficiency. Its front S-duct, adapted from the 488 Pista, increased downforce while the compact horizontal LED headlamps freed space for brake-cooling ducts. At the rear, a louvred Lexan engine cover paid direct homage to the F40, and four circular taillights revived a classic Ferrari signature. Side Slip Control 6.1 and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer Plus allowed the driver to explore the car's limits with progressively managed yaw control. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.8 seconds, a maximum speed of 340 km/h and a 1:22.5 Fiorano lap. The F8 Tributo was both a major evolution of the 458/488 architecture and a deliberate tribute to the pure-combustion mid-engined V8 bloodline before Ferrari's series production shifted toward hybrid power.
