Ferrari Monza SP1

Why it matters

Unveiled in 2018 with the two-seat Monza SP2, the SP1 revived the spirit of Ferrari's open sports-racing cars while using entirely contemporary engineering and design. Its defining feature is the asymmetrical single-seat cockpit: the passenger side is replaced by uninterrupted sculpted bodywork, making the driver the visual and emotional center of the automobile. The 6,496 cc naturally aspirated V12 produced 810 cv at 8,500 rpm and 719 Nm of torque through a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. Ferrari constructed the monocoque and body from carbon fiber, while a patented Virtual Wind Shield integrated into the instrument fairing diverted airflow away from the driver without compromising the exceptionally low silhouette. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.9 seconds and a maximum speed above 300 km/h. Production of the SP1 and SP2 was limited to 499 cars in total. As the purest expression of Ferrari's first Icona project, the SP1 united the drama of a historic racing barchetta with the performance and control systems of a modern flagship road car.
