Why it matters

Unveiled in 2018 alongside the single-seat Monza SP1, the SP2 reinterpreted Ferrari barchettas such as the 750 Monza and 860 Monza without resorting to retro styling. Its 6,496 cc naturally aspirated V12 produced 810 cv at 8,500 rpm and 719 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. A carbon-fiber monocoque and carbon-fiber body helped control weight, while the absence of a conventional windscreen created the car's defining low silhouette. Ferrari developed a patented Virtual Wind Shield within the instrument fairing to deflect airflow over the occupants, preserving the sensation of an open racing car while improving comfort. The SP2 provided a second seat beneath its sculpted tonneau, distinguishing it from the solitary SP1 while retaining the same essential engineering. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.9 seconds and a maximum speed above 300 km/h. Limited to 499 examples shared between SP1 and SP2, the Monza established Icona as Ferrari's series for modern cars inspired by the most evocative chapters of its history.
