Ferrari Roma

Why it matters

Unveiled in Rome in 2019, the Ferrari Roma evoked the elegance and optimism of the Italian capital during the 1950s and 1960s under the theme 'La Nuova Dolce Vita.' Its proportions recalled classic front-engined Ferrari grand tourers while avoiding literal retro design: a long hood, compact cabin and sweeping fastback tail were shaped with minimal ornament. The 3,855 cc twin-turbocharged V8 produced 620 cv and drove through the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission introduced by the SF90 Stradale. Ferrari developed new cam profiles, turbine-speed sensing and a particulate-filter exhaust system while preserving the engine's immediate response and rising torque delivery. An active rear spoiler remained hidden within the rear glass at low speed, then deployed through intermediate and high-downforce positions as required. The Side Slip Control 6.0 system introduced a five-position manettino with Race mode to this class of Ferrari, while the dual-cockpit interior visually separated driver and passenger within two flowing cells. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 9.3 seconds and a maximum speed above 320 km/h. The Roma broadened Ferrari's modern range with a restrained, usable and deeply elegant alternative to its more overt supercars.
