Ferrari Roma Spider

Why it matters

Unveiled in 2023, the Roma Spider became Ferrari's first front-engined road car with a fabric roof since the 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider of 1969. Its five-layer tailored soft top preserved the Roma's fastback-inspired elegance while offering acoustic insulation comparable with a retractable hardtop. The roof opened in 13.5 seconds and could operate at speeds up to 60 km/h, folding compactly enough to preserve useful luggage space. Ferrari reinforced and refined the aluminum body structure, recalibrated the rear suspension and introduced a patented movable wind deflector integrated into the rear-seat backrest to reduce cockpit turbulence. The 3,855 cc twin-turbocharged V8 produced 620 cv and drove through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while variable torque management shaped delivery through the gears. Side Slip Control 6.0, a five-position manettino and active rear aerodynamics retained the coupe's sophisticated chassis character. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 9.7 seconds and a maximum speed above 320 km/h. The Roma Spider restored the romance of a traditional cloth-roof Ferrari while preserving the technology, refinement and daily usability of a modern 2+ grand tourer.
