Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M

Why it matters

Revealed in November 2008 and publicly shown at the Bologna Motor Show, the Scuderia Spider 16M commemorated Ferrari's record 16th Formula 1 Constructors' Championship. Rather than simply applying badges to an F430 Spider, Ferrari transferred the 430 Scuderia's most important engineering to the open car. Carbon fiber, lightweight seats, simplified trim and reduced sound insulation helped remove approximately 80 kg compared with the regular Spider. The 4,308 cc flat-plane-crank V8 produced 510 hp at 8,500 rpm, while high-mounted exhaust outlets delivered its soundtrack directly to the open cockpit. The F1-SuperFast2 transmission executed shifts in 60 milliseconds, and the integrated F1-Trac and E-Diff systems managed traction and torque distribution through the steering-wheel manettino. Lower suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and a more aggressive diffuser sharpened the chassis without sacrificing the fully automatic fabric roof. Ferrari quoted approximately 3.7 seconds from rest to 100 km/h and a top speed above 315 km/h, making it the company's fastest open road car at launch. Each of the 499 examples carried an individually numbered commemorative plaque. By pairing genuine special-series performance with extreme rarity and an unfiltered V8 experience, the 16M became one of the most collectible open Ferraris of the modern era.
