Ferrari SF90 Spider

Why it matters

Unveiled in 2020, the SF90 Spider combined Ferrari's most advanced electrified road-car architecture with the company's compact retractable hardtop. Its 3,990 cc twin-turbocharged V8 developed 780 cv and worked with three electric motors—one at the rear and two independently driving the front axle—for a combined 1,000 cv. The 7.9 kWh battery permitted approximately 25 km of electric driving, while the two front motors delivered torque vectoring and all-wheel-drive traction. Ferrari's aluminum retractable hardtop opened or closed in 14 seconds and could operate while the car traveled at up to 45 km/h. When folded, it occupied approximately 100 liters rather than the 150–200 liters typical of conventional systems, allowing the rear bodywork to remain compact. The central rear window could be raised with the roof lowered to reduce turbulence or lowered with the roof raised to amplify the V8 soundtrack. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 7.0 seconds and a 340 km/h maximum speed. Available with the weight-saving Assetto Fiorano package, the SF90 Spider preserved the Stradale's active aerodynamics and integrated electronic controls while adding an immediate connection to the engine, air and surroundings.
