Ferrari SF90 Stradale

Why it matters

Presented in 2019 and named for the 90th anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari, the SF90 Stradale represented a fundamental technical change for Maranello. Its 3,990 cc twin-turbocharged V8 produced 780 cv, while three electric motors—one between the engine and eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and two independently driving the front wheels—raised combined output to 1,000 cv. A 7.9 kWh lithium-ion battery enabled approximately 25 km of electric driving and made the SF90 Ferrari's first plug-in hybrid series-production model. The front motors also provided torque vectoring and reverse, allowing Ferrari to omit a conventional reverse gear from the transmission. Four driving modes ranged from silent eDrive to Qualify, while the eSSC control architecture coordinated combustion power, electric torque, braking and traction. Active aerodynamics included the patented shut-off Gurney, which altered rear downforce by moving part of the engine cover relative to the fixed body. Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 6.7 seconds and a 1 minute 19 second Fiorano lap at introduction. With a fully digital cockpit and optional lightweight Assetto Fiorano specification, the SF90 Stradale established the architecture for a new generation of electrified Ferrari performance.
